On December 15, 2006, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum launched a temporary exhibition about children in the Lodz ghetto — Give Me Your Children: Voices of the Lodz Ghetto.

Now the Museum Needs Your Help
Inspired by an extraordinary artifact — an album of hand-drawn New Year's greetings presented by ghetto schools to the Jewish Council chairman, Chaim Rumkowski, and signed by thousands of Lodz ghetto schoolchildren — the museum has launched a worldwide collaborative volunteer project to find out what happened to the student signatories in this album.

Reconstruct their Stories
Where there is information about these children, it is often fragmentary and dispersed in archives around the world. This site provides access to a collection of online databases and scanned concentration camp prisoner lists culled from various archives for registered users to find and compile data in order to reconstruct the stories of these children.

A Fitting Memorial
Many victims of the Holocaust disappeared into the Nazi killing apparatus with scant evidence to suggest they ever existed. In some cases, all that remains of these children is their signatures in the ghetto schools album. If together we can reconstruct the stories of even a few of the Lodz ghetto children, it will be a fitting memorial to the young lives cut so tragically short.

Register and Begin Your Research
As new information about the students is discovered, it will be stored in the museum's databases and posted to this site for the public to see. However, only registered users will be able to perform research, submit data, and communicate with other volunteer researchers online. All data submissions are reviewed by museum staff prior to display online.

Over 13,000 students signed the Lodz ghetto schools album. A partial list of their names is available for research here. Over time, we will add all of their names to this list.
